Things n things

So I'm waiting for a couple incredible pictures that I can't talk about Wednesday without, so I'm going to tell you a couple bullet points I've been writing down about facts and observations and weird things from when I'm here.

  • All over the tea mountains, there are tall trees randomly.  This is because when the British colonized and started growing tea, the tea plants would get washed away from landslides.  By planting these big trees, the roots are big and expansive so they kind of hold the dirt together so the tea plants will stay in place through wind and rain

Trees + mountains = happy tea plantations
The key says "India" which we found
really funny.  But that's the magical
keychain that makes the power happen

  • TMI TIME: our boogers are black here.  Because of the pollution.  We just about freaked out the first time we blew our nose
  • I love love love eating with my hands.  Everything I learned in Kindergarten is being broken down.  I think I'm going to have a hard time readjusting to silverware when I get home
  • In the hotels, you have to put your room key keychain in a slot in the wall in order for the power to work.  It's actually kind of genius because then when you're gone, you can't leave lights on.  So environmentally friendly!
  • The mile markers looks like gravestones, and are painted on rocks.  For awhile I thought that a ton of people had died along the road in Kerala, which honestly isn't that unbelievable, but then I realized it was a little too much and then I started looking closer
RIP Km 149
  • We drove on the smallest road in India! On a bus. That sucker was so tiny, but not as scary as I would have thought.
  • Almost three weeks in, we saw someone pulled over for the first time.  We were so fascinated by it, because it was just a guy waving down a rickshaw
  • There are baby goats in the middle of the road sometimes! Along with the cows and the dogs.  We've seen exactly 3 cats, and they're the favorite
Whoop whoop! India is weird!
